Tara Conley
To activate space & engage the viewer Tara Conley employs metal, light, line, text, & shadow, mixing materials & processes in surprising ways. Careful, deliberate attention is paid to each surface & every line. She explores the power & subtlety of line by bending steel & stainless-steel round bar, creating volume without weight. Like a gesture of roping wind, the lines & shadows bring the viewer to a place where clarity & resonance are unimpaired. Intuitive, vulnerable, & lyrical, the pieces are both material & spiritual. Calibrated & free from concealment, they are unfolded line drawings. Negative space captures the viewer while the line work encourages looks in, on, up, & within. Conley has an extraordinary knack for creating organic, yet original, shapes from man-made materials, adding a delightful sense of humor & wonder to the mix.
Tara received her BA from Rochester Institute of Technology. She lives & works in Houston, Texas.
